My name is Rachel Murgatroyd and I have recently relocated to the Republic of Ireland. Don’t believe everything you hear about the rain it really isn’t so bad. I am still maintaining a business so don’t worry, the postal service out here is very good and any piece you require can be posted from the Emerald Isle.
I have been making wire jewellery since 1997, I love the way each piece of wire is a separate thing that wants to go it's own way, it takes patience and skill to make it do what I want it to. Working with wire is fascinating, you don't need to solder or pickle or any of the other things needed for standard smithing work, you simply start with a piece or several pieces of wire and bend them into your desired shape.
I teach wire wrapping at ' In The Studio, (link below)The Uk's private jewellery school in Kegworth (please see links page) and my students and I have wonderful fun. Everyone always produces something different and no two pieces are ever alike. The students finish the day with sore fingers and several pieces of jewellery and I have the delight of involving more people in working with wire. I hope to start classes in one of the barns at our new home in Ireland although this will be in the future, I will be posting how things are getting along on the website.
